An Important Message from Mississippi's Governor
Our state has a sacred duty to make certain that the men and women of America's armed forces who have served their country so bravely around the world have a job when they return home. Our many active duty, reserve, guard and retired military members deserve to return to good paying jobs that use their skills learned in the military to serve their fellow citizens back home. For this reason I am especially honored to ask you to join me for my 2013 Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes campaign. This is a wonderful opportunity to help veterans utilize their skills to get a job in Mississippi, and help you find talented and experienced individuals to fill open job opportunities.
It is imperative that we take time to honor the service and sacrifices made by our state's servicemen and servicewomen and their families. It is especially important for us to provide jobs for the state's veterans.
More of our servicemen and servicewomen are returning from the war on terror with the expectation of finding jobs so they can continue to care for their families. As governor, I am concerned that the unemployment rate for post-911 veterans is nearly two points higher than the average national unemployment rate.
The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) is spearheading the Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes campaign. Staff of the agency's WIN Job Centers are ready to assist you with your job postings, recruiting, screening and referrals. MDES always gives priority of service to veterans and they pledge to screen and refer the most qualified veterans first, for any job you post.
I challenge businesses across this great state to take the Pledge to Hire Mississippi Heroes. By taking the pledge, you can show support for our veterans and make a difference in the lives of individuals who have made protecting the American way of life their mission.
